Milestone

Finally! After months of enviously watching older kids, months of reaching for our hands so as to walk round and round (and round), months of me telling people he'll be doing it very soon, today Dorian took his first, real steps! And he LOVED it.

He has been 'letting go' when moving from, say, a chair to the sofa for a week or so; taking one unaided step while lurching forward. Today he did that a couple of times and then did one with two steps. He squealed with delight. Kel and I had him do it again and, again, he lit up. We spent an hour encouraging him to walk between us, gradually getting further and further apart. Each time he laughed, smiled, giggled or squealed in joy. By the end he managed 8 steps! I have never seen him so happy. To be honest, I don't think I've ever been so happy myself; it was so wonderful to see.

Naturally I reached for the video camera but he was so distracted he fell over and started crying. I'm sure there will be plenty of opportunities for video and pics over the next few days. There's no turning back now!

Hands down, the best hour of my life! Seriously, he was sooooo happy and excited!!!! It was amazing to watch. Now I truly understand what parenthood is about. You want your kids to be that happy all the time. I am in love with my son (and his daddy). And the best part? We get to do it all over again tomorrow! And the next day! And the next! Yippee!!!
