Camping

We went camping at Del Valle Regional Park in Livermore, California for 2 nights this week. It was challenging, but we had some great moments. We are still battling sleep issues here and this boy does not do well with change of routine. Lots of screaming. James and I were sure we were going to get kicked out of the campground. We almost returned home after the first night. We had a pretty awful first day and night there. But enough. You can check all my Facebook updates for that. This blog is no longer the Sleep Complaints Blog...this is Dorian's Happy Blog! He is at such a cute age right now and it was nice to get away and spend time alone as a family. It was both James and Dorian's first time toasting marshmallows and making smores. Dorian did not like the smores...he only wanted the chocolate. He definitely has the Swiss gene from my dad's side there.

James and Dorian saw a mountain lion! But alas, they didn't get a picture. Apparently, they were really close to it too and James picked up Dorian and FOLLOWED it! What he was thinking, I don't know. And I saw the world's largest insect in the outdoor bathroom. It scared the life out of me. And there were thousands of wild squirrels running around everywhere - we practically tripped over them several times. Little rodents. And according to my mom, rattlesnakes and tarantulas are plentiful at the campground as well. Eek. I'm glad we all returned home safe and sound. It's a beautiful campground though and the weather was perfect. 92 degrees and not a cloud in sight. The water in the lake was warm. Dorian loved swimming in it. Good times. See for yourselves:

"Daddy, guitar! Daddy, guitar!"
More male bonding.
A clean campsite...
James somehow makes everything look more civilized.
Can we toast chocolate instead?
Mama ate all the marshmallows Dori didn't want. Mmm mmm!
James said Dori looked like a little garden gnome in this outfit!
Checking out the views.
"Cheese!"
My new favorite picture.
Helping.
Undoing our packing work.
Riding Daddy's guitar.
